NFV network function virtualization (Network Functions Virtualization) is a concept of network architecture. Through the use of virtualization technology, network nodes are divided into several functional blocks, each in software mode, and is no longer limited to hardware architecture.
NFV can build many types of network equipment (such as servers, switches, storage, etc.) into a data center network, form virtual machines through IT virtualization technology, and then deploy traditional services to VMs.
Before the advent of NFV, the customization of equipment was obvious. Specific equipment was set up to achieve specialized functions. NFV separates the control plane of the equipment from the specific equipment and uses a virtual machine based on the cloud operating system. Provide control level content for different devices. When companies need to deploy new services, they only need to create corresponding virtual machines on the open virtual machine platform, and then install software packages with corresponding functions on the virtual machines. This approach is called network function virtualization.
The standard architecture of NFV includes NFV infrastructure (NFVI), MANO (Management and Orchestration) and VNFs. The three are the top conceptual entities in the standard architecture. In the NFV architecture, the bottom layer is specific physical devices, such as servers, storage devices, and network devices.
