Huawei HCIE R&S: QOS traffic shaping token bucket mechanism and rules

In Huawei equipment, the concept of traffic shaping needs to be explained:

CIR, committed information rate, committed information rate, the unit is bit/s, which means the rate of delivering tokens to the token bucket.

CBS, Committed Burst Size, Committed Burst Size, the unit is bit/s. It is used to define the maximum burst before partial traffic exceeds CIR, which is the capacity of the token bucket. The larger the CBS, the larger the allowable burst.

EBS, Extended Burst Size, excess burst, used to define the maximum burst before all traffic exceeds CIR.

In single-rate token buckets, Huawei uses a dual-bucket structure. The double-bucket structure is implemented by two buckets. For convenience, the token bucket is divided into a C bucket and an E bucket. C bucket capacity is CBS, E pass capacity is EBS, and total capacity is CBS+EBS. When EBS is not 0, both buckets are working, which is called a single-speed double bucket. If EBS is 0, no bursts are allowed. At this time, only C bucket is working, which is called single speed single bucket.

Simple as shown:

Single rate traffic evaluation rules:

The single-rate traffic evaluation methods are divided into color-blind mode and color-sensitive mode. The rules for single-speed double-bucket and single-speed single-bucket are different in different modes. Explain later.

Single rate token addition method:

In the single rate marking algorithm, two buckets are full in the initial state. Add tokens to bucket C first. After bucket C is full, add tokens to bucket E. After two buckets are full, newly added tokens will be discarded.

Huawei QOS Single Bucket Rules

When the packet arrives, it is directly compared with the number of tokens in the token bucket. If the number of tokens is enough, it is forwarded. If the number of tokens is not enough, it is cached or discarded. Assuming that Tc and Te represent the number of tokens in the bucket, respectively, Tc and Te are initialized equal to CBS and EBS.

In color-blind mode, evaluate the arriving packets:

In the case of single-speed single-bucket, when the packet length does not exceed the number of tokens Tc in bucket C, the packet is marked green and Tc=Tc-B; when the packet length exceeds the number of tokens in bucket C Tc, The packet is marked in red and the Tc value is unchanged.

For single-speed dual-bucket, if the packet length does not exceed the number of tokens Tc in bucket C, the packet is marked green, and Tc=Tc-B; if the packet length exceeds the number of tokens in bucket C Tc , But does not exceed the number of tokens Te in the E bucket, the packet is marked yellow and Te=Te-B; if the packet length exceeds the number of tokens in the E bucket Te, the packet is marked red, and Tc and Te remains unchanged.

In color-sensitive mode, when evaluating the arrival message, the rules are as follows:

In the case of single-speed single-bucket, if the packet is marked green but the packet length does not exceed the number of tokens in bucket C, Tc, the packet is marked green and Tc=Tc-B; if the packet is marked green and If the packet length exceeds the number of tokens in bucket C, Tc, the packet is marked in red and Tc remains unchanged. If the packet is marked in yellow or red, the packet is directly marked in red and Tc remains unchanged.

In the case of single-speed dual-bucket, if the packet is marked green and the packet length does not exceed the number of tokens Tc in bucket C, the packet is marked green and Tc=Tc-B; if the packet is already marked Is green and the packet length exceeds the number of tokens in bucket C Tc but not more than the number of tokens in bucket E Te, the packet is marked yellow and Te=Te-B; if the packet has been marked yellow However, if the packet length does not exceed the number of tokens in the E bucket Te, the packet is marked yellow, and Te=Te-B; if the packet has been marked yellow and the packet length exceeds the number of tokens in the E bucket Te, the message is marked in red, and Te remains unchanged; if the message has been marked in red, the message is marked in red directly, Tc and Te remain unchanged.
