Cisco IOS-XR Configuration Management

Cisco IOS-XR is commonly used in high-end routers of ISPs, such as Cisco XR 12000 series, NCS series, etc. IOS-XR commands are also different from traditional Cisco IOS. You need to enter commit after knocking the configuration, so that the configuration can take effect.

In the SP CCIE exam, Cisco’s software system IOS and IOS-XR have been tested. IELAB is the fastest and most stable in the world in the SP CCIE exam information update. If you are going to obtain the SP CCIE V5.0 certificate, now The discount is unprecedented 50% OFF, contact our staff for more details. Let ’s first understand the configuration management of IOS-XR.

IOS-XR is an operating system developed by Cisco for SP carrier products in 2004 and has been updated several times. The IOS-XR system is greatly enhanced compared to IOS and NX-OS, and it perfectly solves the problems of multi-threading and memory. It has strong system management capabilities.

The configuration of IOS-XR is saved in the system database (SysDB). There is no startup-config in IOS-XR, the router configuration is based on the two-stage configuration model. The “running” or “active” configuration cannot be modified directly. As shown below:

The user changes the target configuration “Target config”, the order does not matter, these configurations will be in the staging area (staging area), need to verify the syntax and get authorization, can be reviewed and modified before submission.

Target config needs to explicitly submit the configuration to “commit” to Active / Running Config, so that the configured commands can be applied to Running-config. You can also apply checkpoint (checkpoint-the previous configuration saved before) to the modification of Active / Running.

As shown in the figure, the upper part is to configure the device as needed, but these configurations have not been applied, so the previous prompt is still ios, and the router name has not been modified. If there are many commands configured, and you want to see which commands have been configured before, you can use “show configuration” to see which commands are currently configured and have not been submitted.

At the time of submission, if the Target-config is verified to be valid, all will be immediately applied to Running-config, and a successful submission will be given a Commit-ID and stored in SysDB.

If an invalid configuration is found during submission, the submission will fail. You can use “show configuration failed” to view the details of errors in uncommitted configurations.

Everyone knows that the configuration of IOS-XR is saved in SysDB, and each successful submission will have a Copy and a Commit-ID assigned, also known as Label. You can view these configurations through “show configuration commit list”.

If you want to view a configuration submitted by a user, you can use the command “show configuration commit changes” + “commit-ID” or “last number”. The “commit-ID” at the back is the corresponding configuration’s commit-ID; “last number” is the configuration submitted last to the last few times.

In addition, IOS-XR allows rollback (rollback) configuration, or restore the configuration to a specific point in time. Rollback is considered a configuration change.

You can see what operation caused the configuration change, and now it is the configuration change caused by the rollback.

There is also a more convenient command “Commit Confirmed” in IOS-XR. This command can prevent users from locking themselves out after submitting the configuration. The first submission is a test. The configuration is automatically rolled back.

You can see that there is no second commit in 30 seconds, and it automatically rolls back (the last change is rollback)

If there is a second commit within 30 seconds, the command will be actually submitted to Running-config.

This can be used frequently during cutover. If too many configurations are modified during the cutover, I do n’t know if it will have a significant impact on the existing network. Whether the management or user will be locked out of the device can be added after the commit confirmed For 5 minutes or something, test the network for problems within 5 minutes. If there are no problems, commit a second time within 5 minutes; if there is a problem, it will automatically roll back to the configuration 5 minutes ago.

The IOS-XR CLI configuration management in-depth course has been taught in Chinese on May 8. Almost all SPCCIE in China are my students. The SP technology is used in the deployment and application of large networks and large routing equipment. A very systematic learning system. After the epidemic, SP CCIE 5.0 is our first project to break through. If you think this direction is useful, take action now and prepare for it. Contact us to get the discount for this track.

IE-LAB provides valid materials(accurate dumps) to help you pass your CCIE. For the written, we have valid workbooks that cover all real exam questions. You can easily pass the exam, usually 7 days’ preparation in enough. For the Lab exam, we will offer valid workbooks(real exam), rack which is the same as real exam, one to one support, professional tutor and timely update.
