There is a very important mechanism in MPLS TE called FRR (Fast ReRoute) – fast rerouting, also known as protection – protection, which is a mechanism to minimize packet loss during link or node failure.
FRR is divided into Local-Protection (local protection) and Path-Protection (path protection). Among them, local protection is divided into link protection and node protection, which is a 1: N protection mechanism, which means that a backup tunnel can protect multiple main tunnels; while path protection is a 1: 1 protection mechanism, a backup tunnel is specifically Protect a main tunnel. Today we take a look at the configuration and verification of Path-Protection on IOS-XR.

Create a main tunnel to R8 on R5:
After the configuration is complete, the tunnel is up, and traceroute, you can see the MPLS TE tunnel, press the MPLS TE label.
Let’s configure Path-Protection and let the head-end device (R5) calculate the backup path to the end. The key configuration is as follows:
Among them, “path-protection” means to tell the head-end router to do path protection;
“Path-option 10 explicit name TE-58 protected-by 20” means path option 10, which is the path R5-R6-R7-R8 that we configured before, and is protected by the path calculated by path option 20;
“Path-option 20 dynamic” means that the path of path option 20 is calculated by dynamic calculation, but it is calculated by the way of SRLG, Node and Link Diverse by default. This calculation method actually calculates the backup The path should not intersect the main path as much as possible.
